Feel less stressed with freshly cut flowers

Everyone loves fresh flowers but for most of us, they are generally limited to birthdays, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and the odd occasional romantic gesture. Did you know that as well as making you feel special and putting you in a good mood they can also influence your sense of wellbeing.

Harvard University researchers have found that being faced with fresh flowers when you wake up in the morning can make you feel less anxious, less stressed and give you more energy as well as relieving symptoms of stress and anxiety.  They are also proven to help you sleep, improve your memory, make you more productive and make you happy!

Different varieties of flowers have their own special qualities:

Chrysanthemums improve mood

The name chrysanthemum originates from the Greek words Chrysos meaning gold and Anthos meaning flower. In herbal medicine, it has been known to reduce blood pressure and relieve related symptoms such as dizziness, insomnia and headaches. In tea form, chrysanthemum essence can have calming and relaxing effects, so highly anxious people can benefit from this natural remedy.

Snake plants boost productivity

Native to West Africa, the Snake Plant belongs to the Asparagaceae family. If you suffer from eye irritation, headaches or breathing problems, this is a great plant to install in your home. It also improves energy levels. NASA were amongst the first to discover the benefits offered by the snake plant. During their studies, they sealed a single snake plant in an enclosed chamber for 24 hours, whilst releasing a number of toxic gases. Results showed Benzene levels were reduced by 53% and Trichloroethylene by 13.4%

Jasmine aids sleep

Jasmine is a great cure for the insomniac. And we all know how a good night’s sleep can greatly contribute to a better mood overall. So to help you end the day, place some jasmine in your bedroom or use jasmine essential oils for a soothing bath before you turn in for the day.

Calendulas help heal

Calendula is one of the easiest-to-grow medicinal herbs and so versatile in its healing properties that it invariably finds its way into the hearts and gardens of all herb lovers. It has been used medicinally for centuries to heal wounds, burns and rashes, both internally and externally. The sunshiny flowers have also been used traditionally to support the immune system and lift the spirits.
