Moving Home? Here’s How to Get the Furniture You Need on a Budget
Furnishing your first home!
Moving into your first home is both exiting and daunting. It can also be expensive especially if you find that you have a lot to buy in order to make your home exactly how you want it. So how about doing it on a budget?
Second hand
Buying second hand has had something of a revival recently with Facebook marketplace, Gumtree and eBay. There’s no stigma attached to buying items that others no longer need especially as they are often in good condition. What’s more, many of these sellers are selling ‘new’ items that are end of line or discontinued so it’s definitely worth considering.
Auctions
This is a great way to buy something second hand and getting to see it first – you can often find some great pieces of furniture and could even lend itself to upcycling to make your own mark. Auctions let you purchase items that you won’t find anywhere else.
Second hand stores
There are many charities that collect furniture for free in order to sell in charity shops. These shops are quite particular about what they sell, so you know the items are in good condition and pre-vetted. What’s more, they adhere to fire regulations.
Family and friends
It’s a great idea to be on the lookout for any friends or family who are getting rid of furniture. They might even donate these pieces for free, especially if it’s your first home. Having unwanted furniture can be costly so you could even be doing them a favour.
Watch out for sales
Keep your eye out and be savvy when it comes to shopping – always be on the lookout for a furniture sale. Take a look online to see if there are any clearance items.
The world of property ownership can be costly so it’s better to start off with what you can afford rather than building up credit card debt. There are many ways in which you can update your home on a budget.
