Living in Perth

Perthshire is an incredible place to live. It has everything to offer (except unlimited sunshine of course!) for families, couples or singletons looking to expand their horizons. From beautiful scenery and historic attractions to outdoor activities and wildlife. Situated in the middle of Scotland, Glasgow and Edinburgh are within easy reach and it’s full of things to see and do. These activities aren’t just for tourists – here are some suggestions!

The great outdoors

There are many outdoor activities available in the area including pony trekking, camping, hiking and even canyoning. The area can get busy during the summer months so it’s a good idea to book in advance if you want to do an organised activity. Choose from white water rafting, tubing, paint balling, quad biking and horse riding.

Wildlife

There is a wealth of nature here and it’s one of the best places to spot red squirrels as they live in the woods alongside the many lochs and rivers. There are many species of deer and otter and birds including the Golden Eagle, Black Grouse, Raven, Peregrine and Osprey. Many come here just for bird watching.

The Enchanted Forest

Faskally Woods close to Pitlochry host the sound and light experience; The Enchanted Forest, when the nights are drawing in and the trees have their beautiful autumnal colours to add to the spectacle. This is an award winning event and the woods are transformed no matter what the weather is like. It’s a must see in October.

Highland Safari

Highland Safaris aren’t like their African counterpart but that’s not to say they aren’t incredible. There’s always a chance you’ll see the Highland Tiger, however! Take a landrover, cycling or walking safari with a guide to show you the wildlife and culture of the area. They are award-winning and once you’ve been on one you’ll see why!

Pitlochry

This is the largest town in Perthshire and is often a great place to stay to explore the area. Visit the Blair Athol Whisky Distillery or the Pitlochry Festival Theatre. You can also enjoy the award-winning Iain Burnett Highland Chocolatier to wash your whisky down with!  Book lovers should be sure to visit the Pitlochry Station Bookstop which is bursting with books to help you while away the time on your visit.
