Living in Glasgow's Southside - Urban Union Ltd

Glasgow is an incredible city with so much to see and do. The Southside offers the best of both worlds – a range of amenities in Pollokshaws and Shawlands, great housing, a vibrant community and exceptional travel links to Glasgow City Centre, Edinburgh, the Ayrshire coast and the Highlands.

Pollokshaws is a great place to purchase an affordable first home close to Glasgow – and a great place to raise a family. There are so many things to see and do in the area with plenty of green spaces, historic and cultural attractions along with plenty of shops, entertainment venues, bars, restaurants and sporting facilities. It’s also a great base for those wanting to be within close proximity to the city but without the city centre property prices.

Here are just a few of the great amenities on offer when living in Pollokshaws:

Staying active

There are plenty of sporting facilities and clubs in the area, as well as parks and green spaces just a stone’s throw from Pollokshaws Living. Glasgow has more green space per mile than any other UK city with a large portion of the land area dedicated to urban green space including parks and cycle routes. You an reach the Highlands of Scotland in just 45 minutes including the many stunning lochs and mountain/monroe walks. What’s more the coast is just an hour away and incredibly easy to get to. From there you can access islands such as Arran where many people from Glasgow holiday year after year.

Scotland is the home of golf and the area has a range of golf courses within easy reach. There are also several tennis, football and rugby clubs, along with private and council run gyms and swimming pools. If skiing is your thing, Xscape in Braehead has a ski slope and there is a dry ski slope at Bellahouston.

History and culture

Glasgow is Scotland’s cultural heart. We have the National Theatre of Scotland, The Royal Scottish National Orchestra, The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Ballet and Scottish Opera. There are several concert halls and theatres within easy reach of Pollokshaws Living and two of the finest civic art collections in Europe can be found at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum and the Burrell Collection which recently re-opened to the public.

The riverside is home to the Transport museum, Science Centre, IMAX cinema, the SSE Hydro and a range of bars and restaurants close by.

There are several historic buildings in and around Glasgow including Pollok House, Pollok Park, House for an Art Lover, and many castles and stately homes within easy reach. If you’ve got a weekend to spare, the possibilities are endless!

Silverburn Shopping Centre is just a few minutes away with a wide range of retail outlets including TK Maxx, Marks and Spencer, Next, Zara, Monsoon, Hobbs, Phase 8, Waterstones, Paperchase, and a range of pharmacies and opticians. There is also a beauty spa, cinema and range of eateries including Wagamama, Yo Sushi!, Pizza Hut, Five Guys and several coffee shops.

Braehead’s Xscape and shopping mall is a short drive away with more entertainment facilities such as the ski slope, cinema, soft play and bowling alley and is located just next to Decathlon and Ikea. Another attraction close by is Springfield Quay offering an  Odeon cinema, casino, restaurants and bowling alley.

There are also the many shopping areas, eateries, cinemas and bars in Glasgow’s City Centre and the West End.
