Urban Union’s Community Impact team bring a heartwarming festive spirit, providing food for over 120 people this Christmas

Community collaboration and engagement is as much a part of our developments as the homes themselves and it is what makes Urban Union unique in our efforts. With a dedicated Community Impact team and regular events and activities throughout the year in which we are involved, we’re using December to reflect on our efforts.

One of the highlights of the year has been our latest engagement, which seen our team and subcontractors donate food parcels to the Gorbals communities – local to our Laurieston Living development.

Why was there a need to get involved in food bank donation?

In the face of a burgeoning cost of living crisis, the profound impact on vulnerable communities is undeniable. As the stark numbers highlight, the UK’s food poverty rate has surged, leaving 9.77 million adults grappling with food insecurity in September 2022, and a staggering 4 million children facing food poverty in January 2022. It’s a harsh reality that cannot be ignored.

Amid these challenging times, our Community Impact Manager, Eilidh Morris, recognised an urgent need for assistance. The call to action was clear – we couldn’t stand idly while our neighbours struggled to put food on the table.

Overwhelming involvement from our team and subcontractors

In a powerful display of solidarity, our team joined forces with our dedicated subcontractors to make a positive impact on the lives of those in need. The collaborative effort resulted in the creation of food parcels, a lifeline for over 120 individuals navigating the challenges brought on by the current crisis. But it wasn’t just about providing sustenance; it was about fostering a sense of support and community in the face of adversity.

One notable aspect of this initiative was our commitment to inclusivity. Recognising the diverse needs of our community members, we took extra care to cater to special dietary requirements. Halal and Vegan preferences were not overlooked – every effort was made to ensure that no one was left behind.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Robertson Civil Engineering, B2B Flooring, Cairnhill Joinery, CTM Fabrications, GR Contracts, RDA Scaffolding, and Root One West for their invaluable contributions.
